The Company

Our client is a leader in designing, marketing, and manufacturing seasonal cards and products for customers ranging from mass merchandisers and chain drug stores to supermarket chains and party stores.

The Position – Assistant Sourcing Manager – Greeting Card

Reporting to the Procurement Manager , the Assistant Sourcing Manager will coordinate and manage the process of sourcing, production, quality and timely shipment of the orders for Paper Magic Winter. He/She will assist the new product development teams in the US as needed. The right candidate is also responsible for daily communication with the buyers, designers and marketing personnel in the US.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Become familiar with buyers, designers and marketing staffs including their product requirements

  • Seek out new suppliers obtain and negotiate quotes for products. Coordinate product cost optimization efforts.

  • Continually control and review supplier costs to work within target.

  • Manage process to negotiate, place orders and expedite production to quality levels and specifications of suppliers.

  • Ensure that proper specifications and quality as detailed on the Product Specs and Bill of material have been received and is being followed by suppliers.

  • Ensure timely shipment of production from all suppliers, to include regular on-site reviews and discussions of production plans and shipments.

  • Develop beneficial long-term relationships with suppliers. Monitor and improve performance through supplier evaluations.

  • Work with QC Team to ensure vendor requirements for social audits, product testing.

  • Research new products, investigate, evaluate and qualify new sources.
  • Maintain accurate records and files of all information necessary to the daily operation of the company.

  • Ensure timely communications / status reporting to colleagues in all appropriate departments of Paper Magic / CSS Pacific Rim.

  • Coordinate samples for Marketing/ Sales.

  • Work closely with Domestic Manufacturing, Planning and Far East vendors on any production and shipping issues.

  • Crisis Management and Problem Solving.

  • Perform other related job functions and special projects as assigned.

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate has at least three years of experience of sourcing in the Far East with emphasis on printing/greeting cards production. He/She must possess strong printing knowledge. In addition, he /she must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. The successful candidate must have good negotiation, analytical, interpersonal and problem solving skills. A high degree of mental alertness would be necessary. Occasional travel to China is required.

Specific Requirements:

  • Must possess strong and effective communication skills. Working fluency in English and Cantonese. Mandarin speaking skills re strongly valued.

  • Willing to accept long work hours.

  • Have an ability to ensure strong follow through on assignments.

  • Detail oriented.
